Fantastic that #git is switching default branches of new repos to main. Takes away the argument that master is the standard practice.

@stylus

I was very specific when writing that `#git send-email` is the most pragmatic method of federation. I’d like to have a button to pull (or push, whatever UI was planned) PR from another forge, but I have never believed that it would ever happen, nobody cares enough, and everybody wants to make their own silo. I hoped that at least an inter-Gitea/Gitlab federation would happen, but even that hasn’t happened. Meanwhile, email users have been enjoying #distributedRepos for twenty years.

GitLab is dropping plans to pursue federation features like distributed merge requests. Sad, but not very surprising to me.

However, @forgefed and related specifications are still a thing and @forgejo is still working on supporting that, see codeberg.org/forgejo/forgejo/i and forgefed.org/!
