@wojtek Sure, that's how I've been approaching the Fediverse. It's not about "engagement" or "networking" etc. It's just a place to post things when you want to rant, have fun, etc.
Yeah - given the initial release of Mastodon was in 2016 I'd say they are probably using the date you signed up for vivaldi.net. (I remember Vivaldi announcing their Mastodon instance, and that was after Elon took over Twitter in 2022.)
As for GotoSocial -- I've been on their main test instance since January. It's not perfect, but none of the Fediverse platforms are perfect. Overall, it seems quite stable, and only has about 74 actual bugs reported. I'd like to self-host my own instance at some point, but I need to have a much better network connection before I can do that.
As for Bluesky - I avoided it. I get it that the plan is to eventually be able to be a federated, distributed network, but I don't think it ever will become one. Not for technological reasons, but for social and political reasons... If you don't start with a distributed platform then the people that control the platform are unlikely to want to give up their power.
This is where ActivityPub got things right. They developed the protocol, and then started multiple platforms at approximately the same time. (IE, it wasn't just Mastodon, but also Akkoma, Pleroma, and numerous others...) This way the #Fediverse will never become too centralized, with any single body governing it, unlike BlueSky, IMO.

Over Thanksgiving weekend, I had some time to nerd out.
I wanted to continue expanding into the Fediverse. So I converted my existing IceShrimp instance into a Lemmy one.
I needed to work out the proper settings over the last few days.
If anyone's interested, feel free to sign up and check it out. I'm mainly trying to get away from Reddit.
I think at this early point, I'll just ask for a reason for joining. Whatever that may be, as along as you include the story of how The Undertaker chokeslammed Mankind through the roof of Hell in a Cell, you’ll be considered mostly likely not a bot.
