@rwg I do understand your point and it is the same logic that was used against the third reich to counter their propaganda (spread fliers by plane drop).
But you're making one crucial mistake. The professional propaganda machine of meta is like if the flier drop was a permanent two way street.
By federating, you open up the flood gates to 10x the content the fedi has, including badly moderated and biased slop.

somebody made a fake "fedipact" suicide pact page on github that was like "by signing this i agree to kill myself if anyone else who has does"
it got removed immediately, and i never saw the full thing but it kept popping up in search results
