AFAICT: The advantage of #bluesky and #ATproto is that they bring together all the decentralized data in one place, but that depends on there being basically one relay that everybody uses. That allows easy search and the ability to view the stats of the entire network in one place.
But this means that as/if the network truly becomes decentralized (and power over reach is no longer concentrated), you lose all of its advantages. So while it allows for decentralization, it encourages the opposite.

I've only seen a couple of leavers, so am reluctant to call the #BlueSky thing another exodus. Most likely if they are leaving they will be going back to the website formerly known as Twitter or any other centralised social site.
Given the numerous problems, threat models, and state of the world I expect that more people are just abstaining from social stuff on the internet altogether. It might be that hanging out on the street comes back into fashion.

What would you tell a scientist who asked you, "Should I join Mastodon or Bluesky?"
If the goal is to reach the largest possible audience, which is essential for science popularizers, I'm not sure I would recommend an app like Mastodon. I can explain my reasoning in more detail later.
For now, I would like to know what the #Fediverse would say.

ほお、Blueskyのスターターパック機能に相当するものをMastodonに用意することを検討していると。Mastodonらしくユーザー側でパック追加許可を選択でき、パックに追加されたら通知を行ったり、自分でパックから外れるようにできることも考えていると（Blueskyのスターターパックは自分が追加された場合、外してもらうにはスターターパックの作者に連絡してお願いするか、その作者をブロックするしかないらしい）。
