With ActivityPub / ActivityStreams...
To me, it feels like there should have been something that is a common parent of both 'Object' and 'Link'.
That just had the "name", "nameMap", and "preview" fields (along with "id" and "type, of course) — since that is what 'Object' and 'Link' share in common.
I'll just call this common parent: 'Entity'.
...
It could have even been an opportunity to talk about how to handle unknown types.

@soapdog There's a poll-based version specced at https://fediverse.codeberg.page/fep/fep/b06c/, sadly with no notable implementations (wouldn't be interactable by Mastodon etc.), but it's an opportunity to break new ground as an implementer if you know anyone who'd like to experiment with it.

I wish #ActivityPub was a "pull" protocol instead of a "push" protocol. The way it works, whenever you take an action, it sends that action to all followers. I would prefer if it simply stored them and then let each follower pull them when they see fit.
That would introduce latency and more async comms as your messages wouldn't pop up into someone elses feed until their software fetch the data, but I think it would make it easier to self host.

@bossito num mundo ideal plataformas partilhavam o mesmo protocolo #activitypub . Assim, independente da plataforma em que estivéssemos, poderíamos falar todos uns com os outros. Por que razão, se tenho amigos no insta, tenho de abrir conta lá? Não é dessa forma que o e-mail funciona, e as redes sociais poderiam também adotar um só protocolo.

@df não confundas ainda mais as pessoas. Aliás, estou cada vez mais convencido de que o sucesso do #ActivityPub seria mais simples com grande instâncias nacionais a promoverem apps próprias, como no caso galês.
Estás a ouvir, @sapopt ? Tu é que terias meios para fazer algo assim.. vendias como "Sapo X" e o pessoal aderia sem sequer perceber estar a entrar no fediverso..
