Whether you are a fan or not of ATProto, whether you believe that it is better or worse than ActivityPub, one thing is undeniable: Bluesky today is a better experience than the taped together, Mastodon-centric Fediverse.
Bluesky has *MUCH BETTER* mobile software, a better, more consistent experience, and - this might shock some - great ideas on how to really use decentralized software. They might have better ideas than we have over here.

I've been thinking about adding federation health monitoring to #Fedify—not as a separate data store or custom API, but by extending the existing #OpenTelemetry integration. The idea is to expose delivery outcomes, signature verification failures, and per-remote-host error rates as OpenTelemetry metrics alongside the spans Fedify already emits. If you already have a Prometheus or Grafana setup, you'd get federation observability basically for free. Circuit breaker behavior (temporarily skipping a remote server that's been consistently unreachable) could surface as OpenTelemetry events, keeping everything in the same trace context rather than scattered across separate logs.
Does this sound useful to you? I'm curious whether people building on Fedify—or running federated servers in general—would actually reach for this, and what kinds of things you'd most want to observe. Happy to hear any thoughts.

I have started work on a Mastodon-compatible API layer intended to support the many Mastodon front-ends available. It is incomplete and requires an explicit build flag to enable, but what's there (the main timeline) already works with the official Mastodon app, Tusky, and Phanpy.

Ja, genau. Deine Zugangsdaten (E-Mail-Adresse, Paßwort, ggf. 2FA) kennt ausschließlich Deine "kontoführende" Instanz. Mit den Zugangsdaten für bzw. von mastodon.de kannst Du Dich demnach nur auf mastodon.de anmelden.
Innerhalb des #Fediverse wird dann ausschließlich Deine #Fediverse-Identität genutzt. Also im Fall von mastodon.de Dein Handle [at]polkadots[at]mastodon.de (daneben existiert noch eine #ActivityPub-ID, aber das ufert an dieser Stelle vermutlich zu sehr ins technische Detail aus).
Dieser Austausch hier zwischen uns erfolgt über unsere #Fediverse-Adressen [at]polkadots[at]mastodon.de und [at]nick[at]hhmx.de - völlig unabhängig von den via E-Mail-Adressen angelegten lokalen Konten auf den jeweiligen Instanzen.

And is it correct that the default way of doing it is going throug a service on ghost.org?
I browsed a lot of articles about ActivityPub on Ghost. A lot is about POC, things to come and how someone "hack" it to work.

@simon Mal sehen, ich teste gerade die verschiedenen Modi durch.
Was mir in der Sicherheitslogik etwas fehlt, ist seine Follower in verschiedene Gruppen/Circles einteilen zu können, das wäre eigentlich die schlüssige Konsequenz, weil, wie @jupiter_rowland schon richtig angemerkt hat, öffentliche Beiträge immer frei zugänglich sind.
Es ist auf jeden Fall ein richtiger Schritt, dass man sich mitterweile bei Mastodon und Co Gedanken darum macht, wie man Harassment etwas blockieren, d.h. es den Leuten, die belästigen, schwerer machen kann. Den Empfang von Antworten zu blockieren ist schon einmal eine gute Funktion. Ich weiß nicht, wie es innerhalb von GoToSocial ist, ob andere Accounts die Möglichkeit genommen wird, zu antworten, oder ob sie lediglich beim Beitragsersteller nicht angezeigt werden. Bei Hubzilla ist es beispielsweise so, dass man innerhalb des Zot/Nomad Protokolls keine Möglichkeit hat, zu antworten, während Antworten aus anderen Fediverse Systemen einfach nicht zugestellt werden, also auf deren Timelines/Kanälen verbleiben.
Likes und Boost deaktivieren zu können, ist schonmal eine gute Sache. Wobei auch das streitbar ist, da ein Boost weniger problematisch als ein Full-Quote ist.
Etwas schwierig ist außerdem das fehlende Frontend. Für Genehmigungen jedesmal vom Frontend auf die Webseite weitergeleitet zu werden, halte ich vom Nutzungserleben nicht für sinnvoll. Das läuft bei Hubzilla viel paktischer, wo ich innerhalb des Frontends gefragt werde, ob ein nichtautorisierter Kommentar veröffentlicht werden soll. Sinnvoll wäre auch, die Berechtigung bei Beiträgen individuell einstellen zu können als sie nur für alle Beiträge. Praktisch wird es eher so sein, dass ich bei bestimmten Beiträgen die Interaktionen ausschalten werde, aber es nicht als generelle Einstellung benötige.
Was mir gut gefällt, ist dass die Hashtags bei Mastodon sauber angezeigt werden, das ist bei Beiträgen von Hubzilla immer etwas schwierig.
Und eine Sache, die natürlich kurios ist. Ausgerechnet Friendica berücksichtigt aktuell einen Teil der Berechtigungen von GoToSocial, sie sind also schon einen Schritt gegangen, wo Mastodon noch hin will. Dabei ist ausgerechnet die Friendica Community eine, wo man diese ganzen Funktionen überhaupt nicht bräuchte, weil sie ausgesprochen nice ist.
So erstmal mein Stand. Ich werde in den kommenden Tagen noch einmal die approval required Möglichkeiten prüfen. Grundsätzlich glaube ich, gehen wir hier in eine richtige Richtung, es wäre aber sinnvoll, wenn sich der ActivityPub Teil des Fediverse mal anschaut, was Mike MacGirvin in forte vorgelegt hat. Dort hat er das Berechtigungssystem on (streams)/Hubzilla in ActivityPub vorgelegt. Da es das System ist, das auf ausgefeiltesten die Sicherheit der Nutzer bedacht hat, wäre das ein guter Schritt, hier mal zu schauen.
