That feeling when you want to block hf.space on your server but you realize that the way domain blocks are implemented in Smithereen, you can only block a server that has known actors, not an entire domain with all its subdomains... Time for new #Smithereen features I guess.
Why "Delete" is complicated in the #Fediverse
Unlike X or Facebook where one company owns the only copy of your post, Mastodon and other Social Web apps use the #ActivityPub protocol.
When you post, your server (e.g. toot.wales) sends a copy to some number of servers (e.g. mastodon.social) - anywhere from one to 40,000 depending on a bunch of stuff.
When you delete, your server sends a Delete request to all those same servers.
Introducing PortaFed — cryptographic account portability for #ActivityPub
When your server shuts down, your identity and posts are gone.
PortaFed fixes this with a MigrationProof: a Merkle commitment
over your full export, signed by your ed25519 key, verifiable
by any destination server without contacting the origin.
No blockchain. No registry. No core spec changes.
Spec + Rust implementation:
https://codeberg.org/portafed/portafed
Feedback welcome — especially from server maintainers.

#wordpress #activitypub #filosofia
A test post to quickly check that #activitypub federation and #markdown rendering work on #madblog.
A full blog article should be coming soon.
Big shout to @fabio@manganiello.eu and @blacklight@mastodon.online to see if they get a notification!
PRs must not incorporate any material generated by or with the assistance of any so-called "generative AI" tool or LLM.
Let's see what we ca do with that...
...starts new project...
#Django #ActivityPub

@thegreenparty is likely the party on #activitypub with the most followers. They should tell their siblings to post on open social media as well. Preferably Mastodon, but I guess Threads is better than nothing. Or maybe not..

😲…I just realized #FediCon is in the *same* venue as #FOSSY just *3* days before FOSSY starts!
I'm sad we weren't all in touch as maybe together we coulda gotten a better venue deal, but I hope #Fediverse folks going to event will be able stay in Vancouver for FOSSY!
Also, I suspect #SFC would welcome a Fediverse track at FOSSY…
https://sfconservancy.org/fossy/community-tracks/
…maybe as a B-sides event for overflow talks?
