I mentioned this thread in the #ActivityPub #C2S tracking issue. I think there's a fundamental risk that C2S is going sideways because of misconceptions between devs on where things are / should be headed.

The benefit of having a C2S adapter for Mastodon is that it provides a large user pool that could motivate developers to create C2S UIs rather than only supporting the Mastodon API. Having more server-independent client implementations may motivate devs to build general C2S servers with advanced features and eventually disrupt the Mastodon dominance in the Fedi.

I recently met a Facebook engineer. When I mentioned #mastodon and #fediverse they had never heard about it! ... 🤷♂️
I was happy to be the person to introduce them to #activitypub, but it dawned on me how few people in the mainstream have even heard of it.
The might of money is real. I'm sure this is the same in other industries too, healthcare, pharma, tech, ...
Feeling a little depressed about it all.

Warum? Weil Luz del Carmen Ibáñez Carranza Recht gesprochen hat. Korrekt. Nicht mehr, nicht weniger. Ohne Ansehen der Nationalität. In einem Fünfer-Gremium, bereits 2019, über Kriegsverbrechen in Afghanistan.
Die Trump-Regierung hat sie auf dieselbe Sanktionsliste gesetzt wie Osama Bin Laden und El Chapo Guzmán.

Das ist keine Außenpolitik. Das ist methodische zielgenaue Einschüchterung. Und sie funktioniert. Europäische Banken haben die Konten eingefroren, aus Angst vor Sekundärsanktionen. Niederländische Banken!. Für eine Richterin, die in Den Haag sitzt!
Peru hat ihre Kandidatur für den Internationalen Gerichtshof zurückgezogen. Weil Washington und Moskau im UN-Sicherheitsrat ein Veto haben. Man will es sich nicht verscherzen.
Jetzt denk kurz nach: Ihre Google-Konten weg. Amazon weg. Visa weg. Die gesamte digitale Infrastruktur dieser Frau hing an Diensten, die ein einzelnes Land abschalten kann. Weil sie zentralisiert sind. Weil sie kommerziell sind. Weil sie US-Recht unterliegen.
Das ist kein Randproblem für IStGH-Richterinnen. Das ist das Geschäftsmodell des modernen Internets und wir alle nutzen es täglich. E-Mail bei Google. Dateien bei Microsoft. Identität bei Apple. Kommunikation bei Meta.
Dezentrale Infrastruktur ist kein Hobby. Offene Standards sind keine Ideologie. ActivityPub, E-Mail-Federation, selbstgehostete Dienste, das sind alles essentielle Werkzeuge, die niemand mit einer Sanktionsliste abschalten kann. Nicht Washington, nicht Moskau, nicht nicht irgendein CEO, der schlechte Laune hat.
Wir diskutieren hier im Fediverse, weil jemand irgendwann entschieden hat, dass Kommunikation nicht einer einzigen Firma gehören sollte. Diese Entscheidung war richtig! und sie wird jeden Tag richtiger!
Ibáñez Carranza sagt, sie hat keine Angst. Ich glaube ihr durchaus. Ich frage mich nur, wie viele Menschen ihre Meinung still gehalten hätten wenn ihr einziger Kanal Twitter oder X gewesen wäre.

¿Sabían que el Protocolo ActivityPub, el cimiento del Fediverso, fue publicado oficialmente como una Recomendación del W3C el 23 de enero de 2018?
Este estándar fue desarrollado por el Social Web Working Group, con figuras clave como Christine Lemmer-Webber y Jessica Tallon, con el objetivo de crear una red social descentralizada y federada basada en el formato de datos JSON-LD.
A diferencia de los protocolos propietarios de las grandes corporaciones, ActivityPub permite que servidores independientes —nodos— se comuniquen entre sí de forma transparente. Esto significa que una acción realizada en una instancia de Mastodon puede ser interpretada y mostrada correctamente en plataformas diversas como Friendica, Pixelfed o Pleroma. Esta arquitectura elimina el control centralizado y devuelve la soberanía de la información a los administradores y usuarios de cada comunidad.
El protocolo se basa en el concepto de Inboxes (Bandejas de entrada) y Outboxes (Bandejas de salida), donde cada actor en la red tiene una dirección única para recibir y enviar actividades como "Create", "Follow" o "Like". Esta estructura es lo que garantiza que el mensaje sea el protagonista y no el algoritmo de una entidad comercial.
