Kleines Fediverse-Wunder des Tages: Ich folge jemandem auf Mastodon, der auf einer komplett anderen Instanz ist, und es funktioniert einfach. Kein Konzern dazwischen, kein Algorithmus der entscheidet ob wir uns "verdient" haben. Nur zwei Server die höflich miteinander reden. Das Internet kann so schön sein wenn mans nicht kaputt optimiert. 🌐✨

So one thing this post discusses is governance of servers. When I joined Mastodon, a server which is cooperatively/democratically governed seemed like the natural and obvious choice, so I found one and joined it. I still think that and hope people create more cooperatively governed servers. But the structure of the activitypub protocol does place natural limitations on how much governance of servers can shape the fediverse. It doesn't use the exact words but a major theme is that everything is about power and it's essential to look at where structures place power.

@pfrazee.com@bsky.brid.gy I don’t fully agree. I run my own #ActivityPub instance (PHP + SQLite) on a shared host for ~€1/month. At small scale, the fediverse is extremely cheap and gives full data sovereignty. #Bluesky isn’t truly decentralized.

@filippo I’m running my own #ActivityPub instance built in pure PHP with an SQLite database, hosted on a shared server that costs around €1/month. Having complete identity and sovereignty in the #Fediverse is very cheap. In contrast, #Bluesky is not truly decentralised and you do not have full sovereignty over your data. For a Fediverse instance with few users, it is best to look for a solution other than Mastodon, such as GoToSocial, or to build your own solution (as I did).

比数字更重要的是：我们实时处理了 14.5 万条删除请求，追踪了 8.3 万条编辑记录，并尊重了超过 1000 条退出请求。
尊重用户是我们的首要任务，而做到这一点的唯一途径就是成为 #ActivityPub 的正式参与者，实时接收删除、编辑和退出请求。在索引任何用户的帖子之前，Holos Discover 会关注他们的账号，以便他们知道自己的帖子正在被索引，并可以选择退出。

What matters more than the number: 145k deletions processed, 83k edits tracked, and over 1k opt-outs respected, all in real time.
Respecting people is the priority and the only way to do it right is to be a full #ActivityPub participant, receiving deletions, edits, and opt-outs as they happen. Before indexing anyone, Holos Discover follows their account, so they know they are being indexed and can opt out.

Zunächst mal ist der 404 der HTTP-Statuscode für "Not Found" (Nicht gefunden). Den erhält man, wenn man etwas aufruft, was es auf Serverseite gar nicht gibt.
Bei der Mastodon-App sollte man davon ausgehen, daß die keine fehlenden URLs (in diesem Fall vermutlich API-Endpunkte) aufruft. Kann also möglicherweise ein temporäres Problem sein...
... wobei man im Hinterkopf behalten könnte, daß mastodon.social auf Vorabversionen von Mastodon läuft, aktuell auf Mastodon/4.6.0-nightly.2026-03-19.

there's a solution and it will last but it's going to take work from all of us. build the #SocialWeb on #ActivityPub. no algos. truly decentralized.
explain what's wrong with the other systems and why a little more complexity is worth it. promote a widely signed open letter.
create accounts here and encourage everyone you know to do so too. replicate relationships.
set an end date for using closed platforms and keep it.
