I'm talking about replying to other people, sending content from here to there that gets stored there.
On some instances I've replied with a video and the other instance just stores a 3-second GIF thumbnail. When you actually play it on their site, the actual src= is pointing to subs4social.
File downloads too, like the big txt, are linked to the subs4social.
I've sent replies with 6 images attached and only 4 show on the other instance.
Every #ActivityPub implementation is a bit different, and sites have lots of tricks of the trade to avoid storing arbitrarily large #replies from other instances.

having news outlets create native #ActivityPub articles and provide all their staff with fedi accounts is where we need to be going. thanks for helping with this.
would it be possible to run a podcatcher off an #ActivityPub account instead of an RSS feed?
and maybe integrate our social graph so we could see what's most popular with the people we follow. let us boost episodes to those who follow us.
#bluesky isn't gonna be happy when the next "open social" whatchamacallit with even more VC money and even better connections decides to go with a 3rd protocol (obviously like they did to #ActivityPub)
ugh: https://overreacted.io/open-social/
my home server https://aus.social has been inaccessible and returned 502 error for whole evening \ many hours.
I have not seen any 24h upfront notifications about scheduled maintenance. I have not seen a "server on maintenance" page. This left me wonder.
No one advertised here an "X/twitter or other status/downtime/uptime page of a server" .
There is no https://status.aus.social or aus.social/status
Whole situation has been made weirder by https://isup.me which checks for downtime, and "thinks" 502 is normal return code page, marks site as working fine.
So, what exactly happened & what was that maintenance, in technical details?
Is aus.social hosted on single server hardware/vps, because if there was a second server for load balancing - there probably wouldn't be such issue.
Should we expect this situation to repeat?
What is recomended official status page\downtime checker? (that is not hosted on this server and will be accessible in case of downtime)
There is no known contact form with Admin, like IRC\XMPP, outside of Fediverse.
Is server maintained by single person or team or public organisation ?
Also, if it's single person, WHO IS exactly the Admin ?
because this server is advertised and suggested as trusted and reliable on joinmastodon.org , that supposed to communicate to users upfront on any issues.
Also, if you are not on aus.social, but anywhere on fediverse, this is example of how this #fediverse #activitypub is still centralized around single points of failures like DNS, central servers. So my few suggestions to you as user (outside of this issue): Bring your own Server. #Selfhost. You can selfhost static pages for free with #indieweb & activitypub support. Add #hyphanet #scuttlebutt #zeronet keyoxide keybase.io PGP GPG blockchains etherium #p2p #ipfs OrbitDB tox bitmessage jami briar Namecoin http://pubky.tech http://keychat.io to your stack.
Autonomy, independence, federation, WordPress and concrete
I have had to make some behind-the-scenes changes to this website. In the process, I am planning to make it more interoperable with the fediverse and indieweb standards — and I am sticking with WordPress.https://duncanstephen.net/autonomy-independence-federation-wordpress-and-concrete/

Morning, theATL.social! Some morning announcements/thoughts:
It looks like we have a new version of Mastodon v4.4.5 released. I plan to have this server upgraded to that, this evening.
And, another update to the #pyfedi fork this weekend too.
In other news...
Reading about the likely consolidation of TikTok into Larry Ellison's Globalmegacorp, it's astonishing but not surprising how the gov't and its oligarchs are now consolidating control of any opinion-setting company/tech they can get their hands on.
I'm grateful that decentralized social media is now well-established, but not unfortunately, widely popular in the same way that TikTok is.
I wasn't sure if #Loops was an active #Pixelfed project or not? But, either on AT Protocol or #ActivityPub, it seems that there needs to be something that can serve in TikTok's place, and perhaps be ready to get a foothold when folks [may] migrate off TikTok when the bad people take control.
@davew then it is the same as for @Edent I have a category for that: https://notiz.blog/category/wordpress/
...and we blog about the #ActivityPub plugin for #WordPress here https://activitypub.blog/
And yet another post talking about mapping my bike rides... this time looking at the very interesting wanderer which is open source and uses ActivityPub!

#bikeTooter #map #data #ActivityPub #gpx
Loops is basically a fully public platform, which is why I've delayed DM's and a few other things.
I want to implement follower-only accounts, but it requires a few new backend and UI/UX changes/refactors.
Once I ship federation support, I will start working on this, and allow you to easily "disable comments" on all your videos with one button press if you're being attacked or brigated.
Stay tuned loopies 😘
