Loops leverages a clever and extensible `matchUrlTemplate` helper that is used to validate existence when handling federated Activities.

Unlike Pixelfed and Mastodon, we have seperate tables/models for Comments and Comment Replies (and Reposts/Boosts), leading to more performant queries.

One more thing, we also plan to support username changes by referencing profile ids in activities, instead of usernames 😎

Thanks to Pixelfed, I've made Loops a lot easier to install & manage.

Loops also handles comment threading, mentions, notifications and like/share/reply counters much better.

The upcoming federation PR is my biggest ever, and will bring full ActivityPub federation to Loops 😍

I've been busy wrapping up the final parts of Loops ActivityPub federation!

We will ship with two modes (Open and Lockdown), the latter allowing you to restrict federation with allowed instances only (and enforced via AuthorizedFetch)

You can also disable Federation support

I'll have a better ETA this weekend after some more testing ✹

Thanks to phpstan, this may even ship this weekend 🚀

Good morning.

Protocol decay is followed by protocol composting, and then sowing new protocol seeds.

I have a few OpenAPI seeds, I would be willing to donate to an #ActivityPub reseeding.

Testing for PixelFed #01

Please do not take this post seriously.

I am testing the ActivityPub and Friends plugins for WordPress to see how they perform when sharing photos and videos.

I expect WebM and WebP file types and multiple shares to be displayed successfully in Mastodon and Pixelfed when shared via WordPress.

Adding/removing "pinned statuses" to an actor

Mastodon has a concept called "featured statuses", which is a special collection attached to a Person actor.

https://docs.joinmastodon.org/spec/activitypub/#featured

It wasn't readily know how this collection is updated and federated (not without code achaeology), but @claire@social.sitedethib.com recently shared some additional info

I think it’s a good thing that we have multiple different decentralized social networking protocols. Having more than one option means people can make choices, which means competition and evolutionary changes from the software to become the better choice, if it is to survive. That being said, technology is built by people within communities, and the cohesion of those networks and other socially contextual elements are often what leads to the success of one technology or another, not necessarily its core utility. #fediverse #bluesky #activitypub #atproto #scitechandsoc

Destroying Autocracy – September 25, 2025

Welcome to this week’s “Destroying Autocracy”.

It’s your source for curated news affecting democracy in the cyber arena with a focus on protecting it. That necessitates an opinionated Butlerian jihad against big tech as well as evangelizing for open-source and the Fediverse. Since big media’s journalism wing is flailing and failing in its core duty to democracy, this is also a collection of alternative reporting on the eternal battle between autocracy and democracy. We also cover the cybersecurity world. You can’t be free without safety and privacy.

DA comes out on Thursday and is updated through the end of day on Friday. Then we start over. So take your time in perusing it and check back in over the weekend.

FYI, my opinions will be in bold. And will often involve cursing. Because humans. Especially tech bros. And fascists. Fuck ’em.

The Programmer’s Fulcrum is the future (and smaller) home for a fusion of Symfony Station and Battalion. Its tagline is Devs Defending Democracy, Developing the OMN.

You can sign up now and for 2025 get an email with links to and featured articles for each week’s Symfony Station CommuniquĂ© and Battalion “Destroying Autocracy” post along with their featured articles. And you’ll be set with TPF after the fusing.
