One of the things with the poly-centric nature of ActivityPub is that some random dude always has control over whether you and your friend can keep communicating in the way you are used to. If one of your admins gets in a cat fight with some other rando on your server, BLAME you can't talk to each other anymore unless you create an account on a new instance. NOSTR does it differently keeping your identity yours, and if you or your friend are knocked off a relay (or the relay knocks off all users connected to a particular other relay) you just pick a different relay. But again there is the reach thing, there are fewer pepole using NOSTR than there are AP or Bluesky. While bridges exist those are expensive to run and easy to cut off Many Mastodon admins went ahead and blocked mostr.pub just because they didn't like the long ass handles. I recall there was an eclipse.pub nostr->Bluesky bridge, but I think they gave up when they realized that they'd basically need to keep an entire copy of BSKY on their server for it to work properly. I think this gets back to the point that #ActivityPUb is easier than #ATProto for devs. I'm not sure how NOSTR compares here, there's the whole cryptography thing you have to learn, but the speed of new features and apps I see there, I think it might be easier than AP. Then again, I'm not a dev, I just play one on IRC.

I just heard at @fediforum that @altstore is getting #Fediverse integration. When is @fdroidorg getting news and comments via #ActivityPub?

Hope this leads to an even larger shared-layer between all the js/node #activitypub implementations like Ghost, NodeBB, *keys et.al.

Particularly wishing for convergence around a shared *identity core* across all these AP apps in accordance with NomadPub by @silverpill

codeberg.org/ap-next/ap-next/s

FEP-ef61: Portable Objects
FEP-ae97: Client-side activity signing

That in addition to a common OAuth foundation would effectively be ActivityPub 2.0 and on-par with atproto.

Loops makes federation management easy.

You can mass-import servers to block, enforce authorized access and more 💪

We have more safety features coming!

Big news! 🎉

Loops federation is working beautifully!

Want proof?

Search this URL in your fediverse app and check out the comment/mention threading in action:

Spread the word, the fediverse now has an open source TikTok alternative that is truly decentralized.

@icey

The post share settings on that one was public. On #ActivityPub, only accounts that followed you prior to your post will have the post delivered to their feed. ActivityPub clients by and large do not fetch archival posts from before a follow, but some users may extend their clients with an agent that makes additional requests against an account's instance to get archives, I assume paginated or batched in some way otherwise accounts with thousands of posts would cause both ActivityPub servers to choke.

On #ATProto typically public posts are sent to a relay and in practice there is only the Bluesky relay. I haven't been in their pile enough to know if they have a different approach to sending archives, but your post would be delivered to your bsky followers feeds at the time of receipt.

ActivityPub *supports* post privacy settings which would prevent posts from being delivered off of the originating instance and also prevents a post from being viewed by an unauthorized user (enforcing having an account, which you then permitted to follow you, and some ActivityPub instances also allow for grouping followers), but I am unfamiliar with #wafrn 's implementation at this time.

#Hometown is a good example of a type of server instance that is built around ActivityPub's granular propagation, #privacy, and #security support.

I'm drafting a diagram to try to explain to newcomers the relationship between #ActivityPub, Server Apps, Instances and Client Apps… it's obvious once you've been here a while but not intuitive if you're used to the rest of the web. "It's a bit like email, but you also can get your Netflix shows in your inbox".

Obviously I'm missing lots out here - anything really obvious I should add, please let me know? Comments/thoughts /additions/etc welcome… (and apologies in advance to any I've offended).
