I heard a lot of promises about AI powered website builders. When I was at Web Summit Lisbon last week, I had chats about the future of #WordPress and the #AI builders out there. What these builders can do sounded impressive, but it also got me thinking. What do we lose when we hand over full control of our website to an automated system? Performance, accessibility, scalability, some things that matter for the long term. So, I wrote an article. What do you think?

I need a tutor/teacher/mentor in the #WordPress development space. I’m willing to pay for your time with what little bit of money I have. I have a pretty basic understanding of #PHP and #JS but I deal with #WP all day every day for my day job and I want to go deep and be able to do more.

Please boost for distance and speed

One thing I discovered the other day… the way #WordPress manages metadata on attachments is an utter abomination.

A few weeks back, I noticed that if there was sufficient text in an image caption, and the image was small enough, the caption would completely cover the link part of the image, meaning you could no longer "click to enlarge".

vk4msl.com/2022/03/05/network- was the page I noticed it on.

At first I looked at a solution to the CSS used, not finding a quick and easy option, I ended up installing FooGallery, which is doing okay.

Except I noticed some of my media items were broken: the files had been renamed at some point but the metadata didn't reflect the new name. (I don't remember going in there, but clearly at some point I _did_.)

Nowhere does it let you directly correct the file name. I ended up installing the `ipython` shell (I run my own host) and a few dependencies to let me connect to the MariaDB backend.

`wp_postmeta` was the table I needed to manipulate. `_wp_attached_file` and `_wp_attachment_metadata` needed fixing. The clue with these items is they've got the same `post_id` field.

The latter, is a PHP-serialised data structure using PHP's `serialize()` function and it contains _lots_ of subfields. pypi.org/project/serialize-php/ allowed me to parse it out into its components.

Ended up dumping the lot as pretty-printed JSON, editing with a text editor, then re-importing the JSON and using `ipython3` to carefully stuff it back into the database.

Are we that afraid of table joins in SQL?
