Organizing My Music Library and Watching an Unhinged Conversation via My Botnet on Discord
So, one thing I do is listen to Pandora, note the songs I like, download them elsewhere, add them to my music library, and update the metadata on the files. While I’m doing that, I glance at this Discord server on my other monitor. Lord, they are insane.
Basically, they started discussing a very important, relevant topic in the news that is being talked about to death on social media. They then created an extreme dystopian scenario that could never happen, related that scenario to a sci-fi book, and made up fictional people. They are dog-piling on members and arguing about a fictional scenario concerning the rights of workers who don’t exist in a situation that is not physically possible.
This is a common thing with this group. They will slip from discussing a real, relevant topic into fiction and speculative scenarios without realizing they’re no longer discussing reality. This is why I’m actually pretty happy that Discord did what it did, because folks on Discord often seem to have no concept of reality. I’m hoping that the age verification shenanigans will force them to reevaluate their relationship with Discord. In trying to find alternatives to Discord, a lot of people are realizing that Discord has pretty much become an everything app for people who were substituting real-world social relationships with the internet, so they are reevaluating.
What is insane to me about the situation is that, one, this is common for Discord servers, and, two, so many people who are chronically on Discord have no awareness of when they move from actual events and real issues to abstract discussions related to the news, and then into speculative science fiction scenarios. It’s really insane how chronically online people seem to have lost all connection to reality.
I’m just watching while I listen to music, download music, and organize my music library. Absolute, utter fucking insanity.
