RPi / 2.5" hard discs question!

I have a bunch of 2.5" internal SATA drives (in good condition) that I can place in caddies turning them into USB3 external drives:

Q. Would using them over USB3.x as boot devices for various distros be 1) Possible? 2) Much different in terms of speed than a good MicroSD like the RPi official card? I'm not fussed about boot speed itself, but working speed post-boot.

I'd be using a Pi5, and not for demanding applications.

If you haven't already "The Cyberdeck Cafe" should be on your visit list if you're at all interested in CyberPunk or cyberdecks.

Why is this crap not already baked in? I did it before, months ago, but completely forgot about it for the new device.

Also the Pi OS has no concept of NVMe by default.

/boot/firmware/config.txt

needs to have this line

/boot/firmware/config.txt

Let the thing know about it for boot.

sudo rpi-eeprom-config --edit

BOOT_ORDER=0xf416

but now I am missing some partition size as this is a 4TB drive, oh well. Boot like it is 1999

I spent the afternoon working on CAD for the MK9 case for my DIY Raspberry Pi tablet.

This should 3D print well, and be sturdy, and allow for reasonable airflow.

Next CAD will be holes for all the ports on the sides, and a back cover (with more vents).

So, I'm trying to get a relatively modern install on my 1 model B, but the newest supported by is 14.2. That's where I wanna tackle .

Does anyone here know how to get BonSlack 15.0 installed on a Pi 1? I'm completely lost on how to do it, and documentation is minimal at best.

Finally got around to installing PiHole on our home network. Gotta say it’s pretty impressive. I’m running it on a 10 year old raspberry pi 2 and it barely uses any resources at all. Let’s see if it can block obnoxious ads that come through that don't get caught by ublock
