#Caturday Contraption. Testing build for the RaspberryPi Pico CircuitPython rubber band launcher before I create a tutorial. Unclear if Admiral Grace is enjoying this or just humoring me. #CircuitPython #RaspberryPi #Pico

Has been a super useful shop of hobbiest electronics in the UK, like raspberry pis and breadboards and stuff. I bought my HackRF from then years ago

Today I #TIL that the Raspberry Pi Pico has an ADC pin, but the Pi Zero does not.

That complicates my plan to monitor battery voltage with the Pi Zero.

I might use a Pi Pico for that, but then I would need to work out the communication between the Pico and the Zero, preferably via USB.

@Gammitin You can pretty much have that back again with a classroom of #RaspberryPi 500+'s with the RGB keys all color co-ordinated nicely.

Just mostly finished a RaspberryPi tiny computer project that took far too long because I know little of the Bash scripting basics on Linux. The project was to make an alarm that goes off at the designated cat feeding times so that they think it's the alarm that decides when to eat, not us. We had this on an Apple HomePod for a few years (I made a track that uses a triangle percussion sound) and it works well, but if it goes off while we are listening to music, we have to restart the playlist afterwards. So I figured a RaspberryPi and a USB speaker would do the job.

It took me 3 days of fiddling. First to figure out how to connect to it without a monitor (I got the Wi-Fi name wrong), then to get the sound system to default to the USB speaker on reboot. Next to figure out where files are stored if I put them on the boot flash card (/boot/firmware, if you're curious), and finally to get cron, the scheduling system, to work. So. Many. Typos.

Anyway, it works, and I can also signal it to run an alarm early if the household cat wrangler (my spouse) wants to go to bed early. The last thing to do is get the button to work so she doesn't have to get my help. #RaspberryPi

The previous photo shows a Rpi5 under the red cover, and a buck converter mounted on a S3 UPS + LiPo batteries.

The S3 has a on/off switch which the pi uses upon auto-shutdown. This required burning out one of my few remaining coherent brain cells. C'est la vie.

Here's a look at Week 11 of #CircuitPython #PhysicalComputing class. Students made rubber band launchers with a #RaspberryPi Pico, joystick, 3 servos, and a button. Big fun! youtube.com/shorts/envNY1mYCEQ

And finally, something for those with capabilities and a blank bit of wall: a wall-mount arcade cabinet, powered by a or mini-PC, with quick-change control panels - easily swapped out for the needs of particular titles, from traditional joystick control to a full keyboard-and-mouse setup.

Trying to be better at posting more regularly, and what better way to train myself than a daily thread of stuff I've written?

To start: a near-future-gazing piece which predicts price rises to come for the and other single-board computers, thanks to the "AI" industry's insatiable demand for RAM.
