So I ordered more VL805 from #Aliexpress and those turned out to be exactly the same - fake chips that either do not work (do not get detected by Raspberry Pi 4B) or some of those were even shorted out of the box. Wow.
Also the marking on the fake ones gets washed away almost instantly with IPA.

Hawfinch! Second time I catch it on the birdfeeder. It registers on my PUC (auditory bird recognition) more often, but apparently it not often descends to the birdfeeder.
I love the beak and its apparent disproportionate size 🤗
This shot is from a Raspberry Pi with some custom Python / OpenCV script to register movement. Next step: Recognize birds and then species (so I don't manually have to wade through thousands of sparrows and tits. Love them too, but yeah, I already have so many pics of them...)

Just tidied my desk and found an old #RaspberryPi that I'd completely forgotten about.
Turns out that it's been up for 112 days, and has a load average of 1 thanks to wf-panel-pi which is using 50% of the RAM, and 100% of the CPU.

Fuck #Windows. How is one supposed to run a secure erase of a USB2 connected external HDD without sitting at the computer and moving the mouse every once in a while to prevent the OS from going to power save and halting the process?
It's a 1TB drive. One pass write takes about 8 hours.
Yeah I guess I could fiddle with power saving settings to get around that, but why bother when I can just plug the disk to a RPi, SSH in and start dd in a screen session?
