I have used #SpyderIDE since 2017. It is what I learned to code #Python on and I love the workflow.

However, I realize that it is limited in comparison to many other IDEs. As a result I've tried many alternatives in hope of being able to migrate to something better and learn new tricks, but nothing's been just right. I got VSCode the closest, but it refused to cross the finish line.

I had nearly given up, but then I heard of #Positron, and after the first try I knew I had found the one!

Today I released holm 0.1.0 on PyPI.

It's a web development framework that aims to bring the Next.js developer experience to Python. Without any JavaScript.

It's standard FastAPI everywhere. The built-in HTML rendering and first-class HTMX support is provided by htmy and FastHX.

There are many features, docs, guides I plan to add in the future, but it's already very powerful and expressive.

You can have a look here: volfpeter.github.io/holm/

Content warning:A joke with an overly long setup

One of the drawbacks of working from home -- there are no officemates to appreciate your nerdy jokes, so I'll have to share this one here. Full context: I used to work on radar, and now I write software using #Python.

I've been trying to get one of our internal packages to recognize that it should have either the CPU version or the GPU version of a dependency but not both. We are using uv for managing dependencies. Turns out uv has a bug where you can't self-reference an extra if that extra is specified in a conflict. I've been banging my head against this for a while, so I figured I'd take a break to "get my head out of uv space." 🥁

antocuni.eu/2025/09/24/tracing
