Made a donation @ThePSF (for the first time) after seeing them decline a big grant, to preserve their DEI work in the #python community. Big kudos to them.
I might not consider myself an active member of the Python community, but the language was a giant influence on my initial programming experience after learning VB & trying to learn C (~2002 on OS X). I don't know if I'd have kept with programming otherwise - a skill that's greatly benefited my career as a *checks notes* civil engineer. 🤣

Python has withdrawn a 1.5-million grant proposal to the National Science Foundation, after they learned that accepting the grant, as the grant came with an anti-DEI clause attached.
They said this clause would violate their mission and community spirit, which are more important than the money

I've been a fan and user of #Python for over 20 years. I also applaud @ThePSF's standing up to defend DEI principles and reject the #USA #government funding.

They say "don't read the comments" but I think the ratio of good vs bad comments in this thread makes it very, very worthwhile.
Also, the *reach* has been amazing. I've seen reposts from people I follow for very non-Python reasons (not mutuals!), who as far as I know have never posted or commented on Python before. ❤️

I just donated to the #Python Software Foundation (and made my employer match my contribution). They are more principled than all the big companies out there that leech from PSF.
