The Cuban women’s national #volleyball team was denied visas to compete in Puerto Rico’s NORCECA Final Four — a key qualifier for international championships, such as the Olympic Games that will be held in LA in 2028 and the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games.
The International Olympic Committee recognizes the right to practice #sport without discrimination. Instead, for Cubans, #politics got in the way. The #US decision, tied to Cuba’s designation as a State Sponsor of Terrorism, has robbed the team of crucial ranking points, exposure to scouts.

Sanctions Block Pacemakers, #Solidarity Saves Lives in Cuba

In Cuba, over 1,500 people with heart disease need pacemakers, according to MediCuba Europa, a Swiss-based organization that donates #medicine and #medical equipment to Cuba. But due to #US sanctions and Cuba’s inclusion on the US government’s “State Sponsors of Terrorism” list, medical companies often won’t sell these devices directly to the island.
Thanks to a campaign led by Global Health Partners and MediCuba Europa, a donation of almost 600 pacemakers has arrived at Cuban hospitals, allowing life-saving surgeries to continue. Doctors and patients describe what it means to receive hope amid shortages.

OK I am back up and running. I had to drop the entire database and retry the pg_restore, and that seemed to work this time. I restored my backup configuration, and I am back in business, albeit at version 7.2.3.
I'm going to talk with the folks in the matrix channel as to what might have gone wrong with the upgrade. I followed the steps in the production upgrade guide, a process I've done numerous times, and this is the first time something blew up. I could have lost months of work!
