Winter rears it's furry showing natural forces still reign in control of the human realm, for the darkness spreads across the land, as the freezing rain and whipping winds bring the arctic brunt of hell upon the world, no leafs upon the trees to block the freezing limbs, one by one the weight of ice snaps them from their trunk, for all the power running down the line, no heat can stop the ice from shutting down the world in ice, roads become a rink of ice to drive is to be blind in the dead of night, no food to eat no water to drink, no heat to put upon your feet, for winter's wrath is about to carve it's barren path, no soul shall pass nor survive it's grasp, like the depths of space, winter cloaks the bleakness with a frozen hope;

After a restless sleepless night the old man drags his breathless lifeless cold dead body out of a sunken bed of jagged ice, on the cusp of a winter storm, he drags himself to prepare his coffee, his hands tremble as he can yet not see as he pours in the water and counts the scoops of grind, fumbling he manages to plug in the percolator and as the coffee begins to perc, he shuffles off to the toilet, his bowels bellow out in hunger, in the mirror stands a man lost in pain and time, his greasy hair and beard in full disarray, he disrobes his undergarment, and prepares for the arduous task of taking a shower, as the water pours out boiling hot upon his stiff body, it is of little relife, he struggles to brush his teeth, washing his hair and beard become a feat of will, grabbing the soap his hands forget how to grasp and hold, slowly he begins to wash himself, wondering why he even bothers, finally rinsed off as the water gets cold, he grabs his towel and begins to dry, as he exists the shower the room spins and he fights to stay upright, he begins to brush his hair and beard, the whole ordeal is really harder than it should have been, stumbling he makes his way back to his bed, where he again struggles to pull on a clean undergarment, his socks, his pants and boots, he stumbles off to load the washer, nearly out of detergent he manages to start a load, he pours a cup of coffee and gently packs his pipe with scraps of tobacco, grabbing his coat he stumbles out the door, the air moist damp misty and cold, dark gray skies as the world goes by, completely uncaring of the plight the hunger the desperation this old man is forced to continue to endure;
