Even the best open-source software doesn't sell itself. I had the immense pleasure of being a guest on the "Your Business – Your Next Level" podcast, where I shared the lessons I've learned about leadership, sales, and open-source.

📝 I just released DocSmith for #Ansible, a go-to tool for documenting Ansible roles from meta/argument_specs.yml:

It generates or updates README.md plus inline comments in defaults/main.yml (or other entry points). It also comes with validation, ideal for CI/CD pipelines or pre‑commit hooks.

- Source: github.com/foundata/ansible-do

- Package: pip install ansible-docsmith

1. I might earn more than a handful of dollars from open source, especially while I'm currently out of work, and being rejected by companies who are bad at hiring.
2. It might annoy someone enough to hard fork, and take over the project, in which case, *bon voyage*, and I'm off the treadmill. 🏋️
Anyone have thoughts or critiques?

@dhry @jlw_the_jobber There are multiple reasons for that. Desktop #Linux is a smaller market, made even smaller and less potentially lucrative because a big chunk of its user base is loudly hostile to commercial software as a matter of principle and refuses to consider using even when it’s available

Another is that while #opensource projects have been very successful attracting programmers as volunteers, they’ve been much less successful attracting UX/UI talent

❔ 🙋 None of the FLOSS funding approaches work well for minor projects, or deeply embededd tools at the bottom of the stack.
Researching ways to add a minimally annoying STDOUT to my gems on load (just once per load), that can be avoided through purchase of a secret key, via one time payment or subscription. This will have two benefits - 🧵 :ruby:

Almost wrote that something was part of "community mangement". I've seen some poorly run communities in my day, but I'm not sure I've ever seen any with the mange.

After over a decade of relying on an old copy of Adobe Lightroom running inside a Windows VM, I finally learned #darktable properly and it was well worth it

It's like driving manual vs automatic, there is a learning curve but quickly becomes intuitive and I can feel the power and control

After appreciating the actual maths and crafting a simple workflow, I can see how I can push things further without damaging the image compared with the simplistic tools in Lightroom
