With something like #darktable, the amazing part is feeling that I'm using someone's creative project, to then express my own creative project.
With #Phocid, or #Auxio I get to listen to music using these well crafted tools that connect me to my music (as I work in darktable!)
#QGIS , #LibreOffice , etc, all become buddies to my daily project rituals that I value.

I like open source projects because I'm witnessing a programmer's way to express their creativity. It may be as an individual, or as a collaboration of many. Sometimes there's a financial reward, sometimes it doesn't matter.
I appreciate the projects that I support, because I'm seeing that creative process unfold, and I want others to share in that process too.
