Discovered I couldn't join particular #matrix rooms anymore, and it seems because of the newer "room version 12" format that was introduced as a followup to #CVE-2025-49090 https://matrix.org/blog/2025/07/security-predisclosure/

matrix чи xmpp? вчора довго дискутували на цей темат і так я знайшла цю статтю. Виявляється, навіть matrix не можна довіряти... оскільки цей месенджер безпосередньо фінансується урядом Ізраїлю... а ми прекрасно бачимо що Ізраїль робить... До речі в статті також згадується про telegram як про "приватну шпигунську мережу"

I dislike #Discord as a communication system because of it's requirement to supply a phone number (I really don't want to hand that out to every site).
I now dislike it even more because, when I give it a phone number, I get this, indicating I'm locked out of my account due to a rate limit on their side.
I really wish folk would switch to using #Matrix instead.

Years ago, there began a system called #Jabber that has evolved into the #XMPP protocol/network.
I've had a few servers over the years. Our current one uses #OpenFire and I love it for its #encryption. #MPAQ been running it for about 5 years as I watch others trying to create new ones like #Signal and #Matrix, I just can't understand why more people don't use XMPP except for the others being all shiny and new...
Why are people always trying to reinvent the wheel??? Its not controlled by one source like the Fediverse!!!
