Finally fixed federation on my Matrix Synapse instance behind Pangolin. All was needed was a set of rules on the proxy domain

Ich habe den Eindruck, dass Matrix weitaus problemloser läuft als XMPP.
Bei XMPP kann sich nicht jeder Client an jedem Server anmelden (ich habe diverse Clients und Server, nicht nur meinen eigenen mit ejabberd, getestet). Und auch die Kommunikation zwischen zwei Accounts funktioniert manchmal gar nicht, manchmal nur in eine Richtung und irgendwie nur selten problemlos. Auch da wieder stark abhängig vom Client.
Ein Problem mit meinem Server mag sein, dass er unter einer Subdomain (xmpp.example.com) läuft. Ich mutmaße, dass nicht jeder Server bzw. Client damit zurechtkommt. Zwischen meinem Server und dem von Mailbox.org klappt jedenfalls gar nichts. Aber ich habe noch nicht einmal eine Möglichkeit gefunden, für Mailbox.org einen andeten Client als deren Web-Client zu verwenden. Ich glaube fast, die sind nur zu sich selbst kompatibel.
Manche sagen freilich auch, dass ejabberd recht eigenwillig sei.
Mit Matrix hingegen hatte ich bisher keine Probleme (auch da habe ich einen eigenen Server am Start).

new adventures in the land of #Matrix: as nheko seems to be dying, I once again tried logging in via #Element desktop. it asked for my recovery key, which I provided. it then prompted me to change my recovery key for some reason, I did so. now it asked me for my recovery key...
this loop seems endless and I’m not sure how to exit it.

Whyyyy is #Element still so unusable??
I received a matrix.to link to a group chat aand I wanted to join it.
- Put it in the text field after clicking on the "+" button – nope.
- Put it in the search bar – nope.
- Went to the "spaces" tab – no apparent way to join a new one.
- Tried removing the 'matrix.to' part, because I know that room addresses are supposed to #look:like.this – nope.
- Tried the search bar and the text field in the "+" button menu again – nope.
- Finally spotted the entry 'find by address' in the "+" button menu.
- Entered the matrix.to link – nope.
- Removed the hyperlink until just the room address was left – finally.
????
I only found the correct solution through my techie meta knowledge of what room codes look like, and a lot of patience. Normal users would have frustratedly quit four times over during this odyssey.
What a completely unnecessary roadblock. Every messaging app I've used in the past 10 years has resolved invite links or usernames in the search bar, everywhere.
This is the equivalent of old browsers throwing an error when you enter a search term into the address bar instead of the separate search bar! Who would design such a program nowadays, by default much less?
