Oh, jetzt hab ich doch noch was gefunden, auch wenn es nicht zum eigentlichen Ursprung des Themas passt.
Ich entsorge meinen #Matrix-Server.
Gründe:
- Nutzt eh keiner, den ich ich nicht auch über Threema/Signal erreichen kann.
- Die Clients sind Mist. Element Classic ist unerträglich lahm und Element X kann nahezu nix.
- die Entwicklung der letzten Jahre ist seltsam. Zusatzfunktionen müssen teils separat installiert werden und wandern sporadisch in den Core zurück (syncv3).
- kaum Bugfixes von offensichtlichen und alten Fehlern.

I've been tinkering on a Discord-inspired native #Matrix client on and off for the past three years. During this time it has gone back and forth between #Slint and #Dioxus, because Slint is always lacking one specific feature (this time rich text rendering, which is coming in the next release apparently) and Dioxus requires a fullblown webview. I finally got to try out the #Servo based modular dioxus-native / blitz and it works amazingly well for my existing dioxus code already!

The #Matrix experience with #39C3 has been quite terrible, and it shows that large scale events like this do not work for a self-hosted system. It takes up too much memory, the browser hangs and even the mobile client (FluffyChat) struggles. So my thinking now is that for large scale events #IRC is much better. Lighter on resources, so more feasible to have thousands of participants. An #XMPP MUC would also be better.

People's expectation regarding messengers seem to be very different so hard to say what works best for whom. #xmpp, #simplex, #matrix may work for you. My friends and family are using #deltachat. It was the first opensource messanger which worked out of the box for my contacts so everyone was happy. It fits my needs so I am also happy with it:
* strong focus on user experience
* working push notifications on all OS
* smooth multi device capabilities
* 100% client based, no servers, just "relays" for message transport. Relays can be changed at any time and have no meaning
* reliable clients, no message loss, no crashes
* You can use multiple profiles on the same device for different purposes
It does NOT support public groups. It is great for groups with people who trust each other (group members have the same rights). Calls are in testing phase, not stable yet.
Can't say if it fits your needs, just wanted to give an overview.
