I've been having some huge performance problems with my Matrix Synapse server and I think that might be related to me joining the Synapse Admins room (15k members). I already tried leaving the room again through FluffyChat (which runs into a "Oops something went wrong" error) and then via the matrix-nio for python calling the API, that call goes through successfully but returns a 504 Gateway Timeout...what else can I do? Can I just delete the room from the DB? #matrix #matrixsynapse #synapse

I've been experimenting with Matrix for a little while now. In all it's not a bad system, but like a lot of systems, there is only so much technical specification can help with.

At the end of the day, social problems require social solutions.

Imagine, when a chat channel is established not as a general chit-chat channel, but a channel dedicated to discussion on the Matrix protocol itself.

In this case it was someone calling out transphobia. Now, not denying that it doesn't go on in the Matrix platform — much like off-topic discussion, bigotry and transphobia are social problems. A software communications specification can't solve that.

`#matrix:matrix.org` is there to discuss the protocol, not moderation policies. If someone points out you're off-topic, it is not harassment, it is a statement of fact.

Not sure if there's a "community" channel which would be more on-topic for moderation issues, I'm all ears.

The email address, `abuse@matrix.org` is where reports of transphobia should be directed. Now, if the moderation there is deficient, by all means raise awareness in a general chit-chat channel, or on a separate platform (e.g. here).

genuinely if you're an admin of a discord server and you got some nerds over there I urge you to employ them to at least set up a bridge to #matrix (using out of your element personally) or #stoat (#revolt), use the lightning framework bridge aka what the bolt bot is built upon, it's not that hard to do but can pay off when either of the platforms goes down
