RIP #Discord. The #enshittification continues. The glory dais of just using discord instead of setting up stuff on your own server are probably over now. They're IPOing. Which means soon it'll be all for shareholder value and how to best press the last penny out of each and every human that is using their service. It was literally the same for all of the other formerly great (us) platforms.

@grumb jabber.ru работает ещё на чём то совсем древнем. Не поддерживает XEP с историей и т.д. Не удаётся войти в комнату на 404.city с jabber.ru аккаунта и наоборот. В #matrix как-то меньше разброс.
@grumb а есть ли живые конференции? Сам скучаю по временам, когда jabber был жив. Сейчас смотрю в сторону #matrix но там тоже похоже скорё мертво все. При этом как корпоративный мессенджер и одно и другое разворачивается на ура.

I find it difficult because, while there are a lot of smaller options, there's no one size fits all thing out there.
In terms of established centrally hosted&secure, #Signal is probably your best bet.
If you seek to selfhost, #Matrix seems like the best option (even with its sidenotes)
There are also decentralized things like #SimpleX chat

Trying to setup element on a new phone. Verify with another device fails after some time trying to load emojis. I think we as a community should just declare the #matrix experiment dead and move on
