If anyone remember that old scrip and has a copy, that could be helpful.

Misskey is an older project than Mastodon. Development on Misskey began about two years earlier, with its release on April 14, 2014. Mastodon was not released until October 2016.

Misskey has had more features and options from the start. For example, Mastodon only fairly recently (2025) added the ability to quote posts, as I’m doing here. Misskey had this feature many years earlier.

That said, many of the previous mods people made for Mastodon often attempt to copy Misskey.

I wish there was a way to create "toot collections" in #mastodon, and the save button let you choose which collection you wanted to save a given toot in.

Right now I have saved a library of Alexandria's worth of toots. Half of them are toots/links I should check out/read later, and the other half are toots/links I have checked out already and would like to have saved long-term; and I have no built-in way to sift through them.

Oh well, I guess I should just keep a note somewhere else with links I want to keep long-term.

A good reminder that Mastodon.sdf.org is still using Mastodon 4.1.25

That is the same version Mastodon.cloud was using.

They really should upgrade soon.

Ist schon Interessant.

Nachdem ich diverse Hashtags blockiert habe, gerade was Politik angeht, habe ich eine viel entspanntere Startseite.

Ich find das gut so. 😉

Have you noticed posts, threads or bookmarks mysteriously disappearing on your Mastodon server?

This may be because your server's retention settings are incorrect. Here's a guide for server admins on how to make sure the settings are correct:

➡️ fedi.tips/mastodon-admins-leav

TL:DR - The "Remote content retention period" setting must be kept totally blank.

If you're not the server admin but have noticed stuff disappearing, try messaging your admin to ask about their settings.

@argv_minus_one

That is possible.

I know you can jump version with Mastodon, but some of the older versions you had to be more caution when doing so. So it is possible.

However, with the newer versions, I recall someone jumping from 4.3.x to 4.5.x. I'm not certain when the code became stable enough to do that.

That said, you do bring up a valid point since they were on 4.1.x

Getting a lot of 404 errors again today... I wonder if it has anything to do with an update in the base code?

@Saorsa @gazaverified @casey @rania40 @saja @sharifgaza All those accounts are public and Israel already has fine grained surveillance data spanning decades on every Palestinian.

This is a means for people who are using the fediverse as one of their last lifelines to get support from the outside world without being dismissed as fake/scammers.

I get the importance of establishing a community for the sake of community safety and early warnings, but publishing a list of people that you have successfully confirmed to be from or otherwise have heritage in Gaza is an incredibly bad operation security practice.

Please consider keeping sensitive information such as this behind a portal. Oauth can be used to allow verified users to authenticate through their fediverse account for access.

As things currently stand, the resource you've created with good intentions is currently fair game for Mossad to use in profiling.
