Our final talk of the day, and certainly not the least, features Philippe Larose Cadieux @meadmin CEO and Co-Founder of @qlub a Quebec-based social network built on #Mastodon that welcomed over 30,000 new users to the #Fediverse in just a few weeks.
He shares the foundations the team built and the next steps toward making #Qlub a sustainable and sovereign network for #Quebec.
We’re also celebrating Qlub’s 1st anniversary! 🎉

@evan I enjoyed the streaming platform used for #FediMtl today.
▪ I could pause it and make a coffee! 👍
▪ And I could scroll back to look at a slide or re-watch something I'd missed (hello #adhd ! 🤗)

This is how to do an online conference!

Configure Postfix MTA for Use with #Mastodon Effortlessly (Effortless 5 Minute Guide) This article describes how to configure Postfix MTA for use with Mastodon server. Admins who self-host their Mastodon instances can easily configure Postfix MTA (possibly even to do so using the same VPS server) to handle the #email services.
What is Postfix?

On Mastodon web, is there a way to follow hashtags without them showing on the Home column?

(It really messes with my brain, Home is for my mutuals, everything else should go on lists or... IDK, not on Home)

#Mastodon tip: There is a way to use only part of a word as a hashtag!

For example, you might want to say the word “toots”, but use the hashtag “toot”.

To do this, place a U+2060 WORD JOINER before the “s” in “toots”. Example: #toots.

If you're using #X11 or #Wayland (i.e. #Linux or #BSD desktop), you can add the following line to ~/.XCompose to give yourself a keyboard shortcut:

<Multi_key> <w> <j> : "" U2060 # WORD JOINER

Then just type Compose, then W, then J.

I tested #Kagi for 4 days and already finished the 100 free searches available... Aaargh I feel like I didn't have enough searches to try it extensively.
Plus, at this rate (20/30 searches per day), the basic 5$ tier is not enough, and 10$ for a search engine seems off to me (not that I don't value the tool, it's the idea of spending 10$ a month on a subscription that turns me off).

As for now, I don't feel so impressed like I thought I would be (coming from #DuckDuckGo). It's true: the searches are a bit better that DDG (but not largely better). The lenses are interesting (but had not enough searches to try them), so is the tool that pins, increases or decreases the importance of a certain website in your personal search results.

The big issue I had was with the overall theme, especially in the results page, which seems less immediate to navigate compared to competition. I don't know how to describe it, but something always felt off, the accent color for instance. I also tried multiple custom themes but nothing gave me that peace of mind that I have with #DDG's default theme. The font always felt too small or too big, no ideal size in between.

The #AI assistant is really good (yes, I'm probably the only #Mastodon user that happily uses #LLM's from time to time), and I think it's way better than #duck.ai (first time I hear about the #Kimi2.5 model, for instance).

All in all, I don't know if I'll ever pay for Kagi, but if I do it'll probably be thanks to the AI assistant page (the "#Code" model was really good!), not the searches in itself.
