Obligatory, PSA for those who don't already know about this:
THIS IS A SCAM/PHISH/HACK; DO NOT CLICK ON THE LINK IF YOU SEE ANYTHING LIKE THIS; REPORT IT, AND HAVE THE REPORT FORWARDED TO THE REMOTE INSTANCE IF APPLICABLE, AND THEN BLOCK SAID ACCOUNT, IN THAT ORDER.

So, I finally got my first one of these, ever, today.

This is hilarious for a number of reasons, and I'm not going to elaborate on that because I don't want to give anyone any ideas, and in so doing, become indirectly responsible making these bots more effective in the performance of their intended function.

I'll just leave it at that; believe me when I tell you that I really want to write an entire essay right now, about whatever it is that I'm not saying right now, while laughing.

@FediTips On Mastodon, I can quote a post in a new post. But can I also quote a post in a reply to another post? Quote post A in a reply to post B? If so, how can I achieve this?

Just completed a project building an end-to-end data pipeline for NYC taxi data using dlt 🚕📊! What a ride! 😅 The REST API extraction was particularly fun (in a challenging way) but dlt's modular design made it manageable. Here’s what I learned:

✅ Full life cycle: From REST API extraction to DuckDB loading, all in one framework
✅ Reproducibility: Tracked every transformation with dlt's lineage features
✅ Modular design: Defined reusable components for extracting and normalizing data
✅ Handles complexity: Seamlessly handled pagination from the API
Big takeaway: dlt isn't just tooling, it's a framework for thinking about data pipelines that emphasizes transparency and reproducibility which is essential for any modern data stack

If I say something bad about Substack, I am not saying something bad about you. I am saying "Substack is bad" look into it.

#Substack
Supports Nazis
Supports extreme right wingers
Owned by billionaires

If you are on #Mastodon, you understand the concept of decentralization. You can also do this with your blogs.

I feel extra strongly about this when i see vulnerable communities post on Substack.

notes (@notes@sharkey.world)

As somebody with ADHD, I find having multiple tools for roughly the same purpose actually kind of satisfying.

Case in point: I have a Sharkey account, a Mastodon account, and I use Phanpy as well. I follow roughly the same people on Sharkey and Masto, it's just wahtever interface I'm vibing with in the moment. Masto has the advanced view active, and I have about 7 panels up. Sharkey has my more simplified feed, and is using a very pleasing color theme. Phanpy is what I use when I want to see more posts, less less boosts.

In the end, it's what the feel is at the moment.

Push Notifications and MastoBlaster

On iOS, push notifications must go through Apple’s servers. This is not something that can be bypassed, as it is part of the operating system’s architecture.

MastoBlaster, like other Fediverse apps, uses a design that maximizes user privacy.

When you log in to your instance, the app and the server exchange the necessary cryptographic keys. The app also communicates to the instance the address of the relay, which is the server responsible for forwarding notifications to Apple.

When a new notification is generated:

1. Your instance encrypts the notification.
2. It sends the encrypted payload to the relay.
3. The relay forwards it to Apple using its own authentication key.
4. Apple delivers it to your device.

The content of the notification is encrypted by your Fediverse server and can only be decrypted by your device.

The relay, which in the case of MastoBlaster is dedicated and hosted on a FreeBSD server, receives only encrypted data. It cannot read the content, does not know which account the notification belongs to, and does not store any information about the notification itself.

Apple knows which relay sent the notification and which device it must be delivered to, but it cannot access the content.

In short, only your instance and your device can read the notification.
