Bold, italic, underline, link, image, lists, code block (with syntax highlighting maybe.) That's all you need.
If people don't want the formatting, let them turn off viewing formatting and keep that a default.

I've been making really good progress on my #Mastodon application for #Android . I even have foldables working okay-ish. Still on the fence about actually releasing this, or how I would want to go about it. But it is starting to feel like a real app instead of just a bunch of random screens strung together.

The sunshine now fills our days and with it our thoughts wander to more beautiful places – to the blossoming spring nature with its flowers, plants and picturesque spots. Even if that means driving a little way out of Berlin, it’s absolutely worth the trip when Brandenburg’s clearest lake with a visibility depth of up to 10 meters awaits at the end. While many people look for cheap flights to get that vacation feeling, you can also experience it right on the doorstep of the city. Namely at Senftenberg Lake, one of the most famous destinations in the Lusatian Lake District, which is also one of the largest artificial lakes in Germany.
Senftenberg Lake is located in southern Brandenburg in Lower Lusatia, in the Oberspreewald-Lausitz district around the town of Senftenberg. It is particularly noteworthy that this is not a natural lake, but an artificial body of water that emerged from a former lignite open-cast mine. For many decades, the landscape around Senftenberg was heavily influenced by lignite mining. The Niemtsch open-cast mine, where large quantities of lignite were extracted, was once located in the region. After mining ceased in the 1960s, the huge open-cast mine began to be flooded in a controlled manner...
