for all #Mastodon admins running their servers on #Debian stable: Mastodon 4.4 requires redis 6.2 or higher, which probably means upgrading to Debian 12. however, after upgrading you may notice serious issues with ruby assets: make sure libidin11 is installed, and install it if not!

But no, the #DSA's Article 35, which is the basis the Commission (mis)uses to force AV down everyone's throat at the moment, does not apply to any current #Mastodon instance unless one has 45 million or more users in the EU.
(The fact that Fedi isn't in danger doesn't mean AV isn't a huge problem of course. It is.)

@nixCraft Reminds me of the early "golden age" era of social media, that's before giant corporations centralised your ability to interact online, before you as a human product got data mined for profit, before algorithms served users all the content they would ever see, before ads invaded every online corner, back when social media was majority populated by people who followed people rather than brands, corporations, news media or bots. #Mastodon is old skool internet and long shall it remain!
