Since I had backtracked my confusion within ≤ 1.5 seconds, there wasn't time to look at the sources (which I have, of course, because #Mastodon is under #AGPLv3! 🥳)
It all happened so fast, @ted, so I can't be sure, but I believe I had a brief thought that an overflow in a `time_t` — even if somehow dragged into #Ruby — couldn't possibly have -315705600 in there.
As I wrote this, I had the additional thought that even if you could, what library thinks -315705600 is 1959-12-31 anyway?

I've been busy over the weekend and am now trying to catch up on, like, a thousand unread messages in #Mastodon... which is absolute torture.
Notifications, threaded conversations, and "unread messages" feel completely broken -- at least in my beloved MacOS client.
When I'm able to update the inbox in #Emissary, it'll be a top priority to make something that handles complex messaging *at least as well* as my Mail client does.
... now where's that big pad of drawing paper?

I think I more and more understand the fundamental issue with this platform...
It's not a missing feature. Not about the number of members.
It's the fact that this 'Block' feature exists. And it's inherent to an open system. You cannot really take it away. But it's really really harmful. It makes it too easy for all of you - in fact it even encourages you - to build your bubbles and never participate in any actual discussions or even disputes.
It's just way too simple to sidestep.

As a self-hosting Mastodon instance, with just a couple user accounts, I wished there was a "preview card" creating mode that recognized when any user was viewing a timeline, whether home, a list, federated, etc, and only created link previews when that was occurring. Also, if it is not already done, wished it would save link data in the database for previews created and when any user shared that link in a new post, reply, etc, it would search the database for the preview image and data without doing it again. I'm not sure if Mastodon already does this or not.
I'm getting gigabytes of images and making untold server calls to other websites for content my instance will never see yet it retains it.

Is anyone else using #FetchAllReplies on their server? Is there any way to get a loaded post to fetch all replies in the deck view without reloading the entire page?
Currently, I can load a post up in the last column, but unless I reload the whole page, the replies aren't displayed. (I believe this is because it doesn't fetch replies for a given post until I load that post.)
Any insight here?
