Ok, this is weird. I've noticed it some time ago, and after discussion with my co-admins we have blamed the performance of mastodon, hoping that the problem will be resolved by one of the upgrades which has already happened. But no.
The problem is, there is a person A from remote instance. I follow this person. Henceforth their toots should be visible on my timeline. There is a person B on my instance, which I also follow. The person B sends a toot, which looks like a reply to a toot of person A, but there is no indication this is a reply other than A being @-mentioned, and apparently missing context. This toot lands on my timeline. And I click on the toot to see if there is more, and B is replying to. I see noting. Only the toot of B. So, let me open the link to the B toot in a private mode. A reminder: B is on my instance. So, I am checking my own instance, but in private mode. And the result: I see the toot of A.
So, the toot has federated properly to mine instance. Somehow B found it and answered it. And my instance see it. Also, another person from my instance (as I've mentioned this on Signal) has confirmed, they see the whole thread, including the toot from A.
I've checked, this toot of A do not fall into my filters, A is not muted by me. So, I should see the toot. I've scrolled back the timeline to the moment when A sent the toot, and it's not there.
So, something is happening there. Any idea how to debug it?
Also, is there any tool which allows me to check if the given toot (if I know the link) falls into any filter I set up? Because I've checked it manually, with my own eyes, and rechecked again, but, you know, I still could miss something.
