#mastodon doesn't "hide" images, it "masks" them.
The annoyance of many images is that they take up space, without being useful.
uBlock doesn't work because when it removes the image, there's still a "placeholder", taking up space that looks just like the masked image.
You can get rid of the various place holder formats (for 1, 2, 3..images) but then it removes ALL images.
