Every couple of seconds the whole thread goes blank for a couple of seconds before it updates.

It's 10pm, and I'm in a sweltering sauna in northern Italy with my friend.
We're both covering our modesty (and English prudishness) with towels while our European counterparts let it all hang out.
Suddenly, in comes a semi-naked man wearing a felt hat, who begins twirling a towel over our heads and placing orbs of ice on the rocks, all to the sonic backdrop of Westlife's cover of The Rose.
Just when things could not get any more surreal, he pulls a big black fan seemingly out of thin air (or thick, on this occasion) and wafts the hot currents in our faces in time to the music.
No, this was not a hallucination brought on by overheating.
This was aufguss: a German-originated sauna tradition which takes the simple act of pouring water on the hot stones and cranks the pizzazz dial up to 10 to create a theatrical experience like no other.
Thankfully, the ritual was shorter than a play or a film, clocking in at a streamlined 12 to 15 minutes, as the heat was very intense - 85 degrees Celsius to be precise...
