A friend of mine is having problem with the upgrade of his Mastodon instance:
I'm having a lot of problems with the migration of mastodon 4.3.X to 4.5. I got past the main docker problem but still having data migration problems.
Trying to find someone who knows the internal of Mastodon better than I do (which isn't much at all). This is the issue:

Due to this issue, he is disconnected from Mastodon. As I don't run my own instance, this is outside my expertise.
Could someone who has more background on running your own instance have a look at this and comment?

Argh. ich hasse den Scheiss Prozess von Mastodon-Updates. jetzt hängt es an vite, das akzeptiert NodeJS 18 nicht, aber bei Node20.x meldet es eine illegale instruction.
Wieso geht es unter WIndows, dass sich die Programme selbst aktualisieren und unter Linux muss man sone beschissenen Klimmzüge machen?

@seymour @praetorim @karsbehr was #yunohost fehlt ist ein qualitätsteam. ich hab jetzt bei #peertube mehrfach erlebt und auch bei #mastodon wo man wohl backup mchen konnte aber wenn man es einspielen konnte war das backupscript kaputt oder es konnte gar nicht mehr gelesen werden. das mastodon team gibt yunohost die schuld und umgekehrt....

- #mastodon c'est très très mou. Vous mettez votre plus belle photo, vous êtes la star d'un jour sur #flickr, et quasi ignoré sur mastodon! Et là on est hors politique
- par contre, comme mastodon est centré sur les personnes, grande attention aux messages avec # introduction etc...
- possibilité de discuter avec des gens très pointus d'un domaine, plutôt pas mal pour ce qui est #techniques
- les gens n'utilisent ni # ni recherche ni tendances on dirait... d'où fort cloisonnement

Je ne suis pas si des gens se désabonnent ou non, ça ne m'intéresse pas beaucoup. Je parlerai de Gaza, je suivrai ces quelque 60 personnes, c'est si peu face au bon million.
Mais je crois pas que ce soit la cata.
Mon expérience perso de #mastodon :
- impossible de suivre le fil accueil et beaucoup de #
- deux façons de prendre le problème : soit tout lire d'un domaine trier à donf, silencier etc, soit considérer que c'est comme un flux radio filtrable: je suis pour la soluce 2

On 19. September there was a hostile takeover on rubygems.
Which is bad for mastodon in general cause its the programing language mastodon is standing on and RubyGems are an essential part of the ecosystem.
So far there was not much movement on this topic or its not visible (?).

When a client opens a post on the #Mastodon web, why doesn’t it open in the user’s instance so that they can just interact normally with posts? This seems like a huge blocker for new users because the mental model doesn’t match the way all the other websites in the world work. #ux
