La nueva versión de Mastodon se ha lanzado oficialmente y pronto la irán integrando todas las instancias y con ella llegan novedades como la capacidad de ver, al fin, las respuestas de todas las instancias (algo que aplicaciones de terceros ya solían integrar), mejor gestión administrativa y las esperadas y odiadas citas.
Para los despistados, no se trata de un nuevo Tinder sino de la posibilidad de compartir una publicación ajena anexando un comentario propio. Algo que tuvo mucho éxito en Twitter y alrededores, pero que siempre resultó controvertido en el fediverso porque muchos de sus usuarios entienden que es una de las principales fuentes de la toxicidad en la red.
Después de una negativa inicial de los desarrolladores a incluirlas, comenzaron a abrirse y terminaron por preparar su integración. Tras años de desarrollo ha llegado esta nueva función, pero con el toque Mastodon: sin obligar a nadie a pasar por el aro, cualquiera puede desactivar la posibilidad de que le citen desconocidos o hasta seguidores, tanto de forma genérica como en una publicación en particular.
El futuro apunta ahora a mejoras para los nuevos usuarios y apoyo a las instituciones que usen la red. Por un lado quieren mejorar la interfaz tras el registro y, por otro, se integrarán los packs de bienvenida, una suerte de grupos de usuarios recomendados para la gente que llega a la red y no sabe a quién seguir. Es una función que estará en manos tanto de usuarios como de administradores y, aunque entiendo su potencial, nunca me ha gustado el efecto que provoca aumentando las diferencias entre usuarios influyentes y gente «anónima».

@migurski I use the web client on iOS with Vivaldi and don’t notice any lag or slowness.
One thing that kills me is that after viewing a thread of a post, clicking either the back button of the client UI or of the browser scrolls me way above the post of the thread I was viewing. So then I have to scroll hella hard to get back to where I was. So I have to be discerning with what threads I read to avoid an RSI.

I ended up domain blocking @sigmoid.social because it's an instance of AI sympathizers and shills; I have no want or desire to see the work which are born from stolen human effort.
They've got a bot that randomly posts Midjourney slop in the federated feed. Yikes, I can't wait till this bubble bursts.
