Ständig wird eine neue Benachrichtigung ausgelöst und es gibt nichts neues.

Ich bin es leid, das jetzt ständig nutzlos aufzurufen, wenn es dingdong macht.

The thousandth was muted from the local #Mastodon firehose. I have nothing against the majority of the thousand I muted, it's mainly:
- Users using languages I definitely do not speak (Turkish, Japanese, etc) so there's no sense for me to try and see their posts
- Automated accounts mirroring news outlets I'm definitely not interested in (formula 1 and other sports, celebrity gossiping, gaming, etc) and/or in languages I definitely do not speak
- Male peepees (I have my own, tkanks)

#Mastodon etiquette questions:

1. #follow :: I'm following freely people and things related to my interests, telling myself I'll curate later as I learn more about the place. Is this a bit too full on? At first it was just what felt right, as I saw all these amazing people, but I am realising I'm not close to the limit (whatsoever) of seeing people who seem absolutely wonderful. So I'm telling myself, ok, maybe relax a tad. Plus, I've seen one or two profiles now that say "won't follow unless we've interacted", and I definitely don't want to bother people.

2. #favourite :: what's "the point" of a favourite? What do you personally use it for? What is the difference between favourites and bookmarks? How close is it to a "like" on some other platform - it does seem, in some sense, different.

3. #boost :: same questions. Boosts show the people following you a thing they may not have seen, which is one difference from favourites, at least. Do you sometimes boost and favourite, for example, and is that a different thing in your eyes?

4. #alt :: I haven't shared a picture yet, but I look forward to adding alt-text and think it's lovely that this is part of the culture here. Really, really cool. No question 😎

5. #strangers :: Last question - how ok is it to just pop up and answer someone's question if you think you have an interesting thing to share? I've been throwing myself about like that a little bit, but really not sure how wild of a thing it is to do. I think it'd be lovely if we could all warmly interact even when we don't "know" each other, but again, don't want to bother anyone. Your thoughts on this? Is there anything to keep in mind?

Ouch!

My #Mastodon server ran out of disk space (again...). Of course, you can add storage -- but I've found a better way.

Configure a swap file in case you need it for swapping. But also for emergency use.

Just swapoff, delete the swap file, then run tootctl to clean up, then new swap file and then swapon. But be sure to edit fstab to comment out swap file if you need to reboot.

Afterwards, reverse the steps.

Voila! No need to extend/add/resize partitions.
