Is Illegally Searching Your Computer
is running one of the largest operations in modern history.
Every time any of LinkedIn’s one billion users visits linkedin.com, hidden code searches their computer for installed software, collects the results, and transmits them to LinkedIn’s servers and to third-party companies including an American-Israeli firm.

psylo (@psylo@infosec.exchange)

During Psylo development, we discovered that LinkedIn website initiates a WebRTC connection as soon as it opens. The reason is still unclear. As WebRTC can leak the device's real IP, it is blocked by default in Psylo. In fact, Psylo is the only #iOS browser that blocks WebRTC.

Since iOS doesn't provide an API to disable WebRTC in WebKit, the only way to block it is via overriding its JavaScript APIs.

Burned out on LinkedIn? You don't have to choose the "nuclear option" right away. ☢️

If you're exhausted by constant networking but aren't quite ready to permanently delete your account, you can "Hibernate" it instead! Hibernating makes your profile completely invisible to the public and turns all your old comments into "A LinkedIn Member." But the best part? All your data is safely saved on LinkedIn’s servers until you're ready to come back.

Whether you want to hibernate, do a deep clean of your contacts, or permanently delete your account forever, our 2026 guide has you covered step-by-step.

On #LinkedIn, two recruiters in the last month have contacted me about tech support positions. The last job I had where I did tech support ended in *1998*. That's almost 30 years ago! Even if I wanted to resume doing tech support - which I absolutely, categorically *do not* - I wouldn't be qualified for it now.

‼️ LinkedIn is secretly scanning your browser for 6,000 extensions, and you weren’t told

In short: Every time you visit LinkedIn in a Chrome-based browser, a hidden JavaScript routine silently probes your browser for more than 6,000 installed extensions, collects 48 hardware and software characteristics about your device, encrypts the resulting fingerprint, and attaches it to every API request you make during your session.

TL;DR LinkedIn spies on users to a greater extent than previously shown, siphoning off every bit of data they can get out of the browser, including browser extensions, and uses them to profile you.
