Wieviele Nutzer hat das kostenpflichtige digitalcourage.social?
Wieviele Nutzer hat das kostenlose mastodon.social?
Wieviele Nutzer hat das kostenlose troet.cafe?
Selbst manche kostenlosen Nischenserver haben mehr Nutzer als digitalcourage.social.
Im übrigen sind große Teile des Fediverse sehr stark antikapitalistisch eingestellt. Bezahlserver sind für sie ein Inbegriff des Kapitalismus, Bezahlserver, die von einem gewinnorientierten Unternehmen betrieben werden, noch viel mehr.
Wenn alle deutschen Mastodon-Server auf einmal kostenpflichtig werden, dann gehen die Leute eben auf ausländische Server.
Wenn Mastodon generell kostenpflichtig wird, also die Möglichkeit, es kostenlos zu nutzen, im Code von vornherein nicht mehr vorgesehen ist, dann hauen die Leute in Scharen ab auf Mastodon-Forks, die noch kostenlos sind, oder auf Mastodon-Server, die an älteren Versionen mit kostenloser Nutzung festhalten. Oder, noch wahrscheinlicher, nach Bluesky, weil "das Fediverse" jetzt Geld kostet.
Diejenigen, die wissen, daß das Fediverse nicht nur Mastodon ist, ziehen um nach Misskey, Sharkey, Iceshrimp, Akkoma, Mitra usw. Oder sie machen gleich den großen Schritt zu Friendica, Hubzilla & Co. Dann können sie den ganzen Betreibern von Mastodon-Bezahlservern sagen: "Leute, ich kriege hier für lau sehr viel mehr geboten als bei euch gegen Geld! Sehr viel mehr!"
Und nie und nimmer wird das ganze Fediverse zu einer reinen Bezahlveranstaltung. Ich kenne einige Serverentwickler, die wird niemand je dazu zwingen, ihre Software so umzubauen, daß man sie als Endnutzer nur noch gegen Geld verwenden kann. Und was die entwickeln, war Mastodon schon haushoch überlegen, als es Mastodon noch gar nicht gab. Und das, obwohl sie einzelne Privatpersonen sind und keine gGmbH und keine Inc. hinter sich haben.

Most Mobile Games are deliberately designed so that users can't progress & enjoy them without purchasing in-game gems, coins, upgrades, etc., which require real money. Shadow Fight Series is a classic example of this. Despite having good graphics & gameplay, it's unplayable.

For Social experience design, a solution development method, I defined #FSDL to refer to the end-to-end #FreeSoftware development lifecycle.
Since the definition under #SX of #SocialNetworking means "any direct or indirect human interaction between people" this means that any #software that interacts with people has a #social experience that might be part of the #fediverse.
Hence I consider overloading FSDL to also mean "fediverse social development lifecycle" and both uses are equivalent. 🤔
