I'm a recent entrant to the #fediverse and have spent some time looking at the constellation of services that are wrapped up in it.
I'm not of high technical mind so the high level protocol discussions miss me. My level of technical sophistication is knowing which text file to edit to get a desired outcome in Fluxbox, or customizing my Linux terminal prompt or if you want to reach further back, editing AUTOEXEC.BAT so I could run some particular game in DOS (Warcraft 2 comes to mind).
All that said, what services and tools do you find useful in the fediverse? Which ones can you do without?

I agree about most topics, but I disagree about two of them: the farright movement and the chat control propose.
The #fediverse and all concepts involved are extremely important, in my perspective, to fight tools being used by the extreme right to undermine democracies. I'm sure most people in the conference are aware of the importance of privacy, but I'm not sure everybody was aware of how the traditional social media and its logic is connected to one of the biggest threats of our times: all global powers turning into autocracies.
By talking to four young students, I'm sure they were still connecting the dots and even asking 'why should I not use Instagram?'
And what's one of the main tools being used to influence the going people of Germans to vote for AfD?
