Again and again, I have to ask myself why so many people do nothing.
Why they give up.
Or rather,
they just shrug their shoulders,
then say they're not interested,
because there's nothing they can do about it anyway.
And this is true across all generations.

I moved from a self hosted Mitra instance back to Mastodon. Here are what each does best.

* Quote posts (coming to Mastodon in 4.5)
* Markdown support. The one thing I really miss
* Lightweight and easy to self-host.
*Portable identities could be useful, but at the moment only between Mitra instances; nobody else supports fep-ef61 https://codeberg.org/fediverse/fep/src/branch/main/fep/ef61/fep-ef61.md
* Frequent easy to apply upgrades
* Also the willingness of @silverpill@mitra.social to help out with issues and answer questions, and even add things to the roadmap.
MASTODON
* Ability to see alt text. One thing that I found frustrating is that there is no easy way to display the alt text for a displayed image. You can view source, or you can delete the image from your server and redisplay the tweet - but just being able to press a button is luxury!
* Link Previews - this is nice, though only the first link is displayed (I realise that selecting one needs a markdown extension)
