Having been on Morbotron for about a month now, and since completely leaving Meta behind (deleted), my perception is Morbotron has evolved. It's quite an active and popular social media. My initial thoughts was it being similar to IRC channels ― every so often something happens, but mostly idle thoughts. No more.
It also has added benefits.
+ No Algorithm
+ No ads
+ No AI
+ No observed abuse towards another

Saw a #meta #AI generated ad that was a punch to the gut. My family has been going thru a tough-love treatment w/my mom’s youngest sister, who has chosen alcohol instead of us. Its been hard not to pick up the phone the last several yrs.
For dumb reasons she now regrets, my mom got a #facebook account last yr, & w/a bit of data mining, meta grabbed an image of my aunt, used it in a sporting goods ad & dropped it to my mom’s feed. Regardless of this back story, what a terrible idea this is

The way that we often frame the question of privacy is wrong. Many ask "Do you have anything to hide?" when the question should really be "Do you have anything to show?"
Do you have anything you desperately want to show the government, corporations, random strangers, and your worst enemies?
The answer might sometimes be yes, but truly think how often you're begging for these entities to have such personal data. I'm going to take a bet and say that for most things, the answer will be that you're not. For each of those things you don't desperately want these entities to see, you need to seriously consider your privacy.

A lot has happened in the last two decades. Much good, some bad, and now the ugly...
I am so happy I completely left billionaire owned social media years ago. They would decimate my interaction with the world as they fed a curated feed approved by their grifting policies. There's no way I would have an information rich feed of arts and sciences like I do now, like how #Facebook disappeared posts with links outside their walled garden of ads.
Thank you @pluralistic for researching and documenting the details... and coining a now famous term for all this, #enshitification 😹
I fear they will aggressively and ruthlessly come for the #Fediverse soon
