They are websites.

I was the Fediverse explaining to a friend today, who needs an alternative to Facebook.
And, the big bummer for her, and also for me, is that neither #Pixelfed nor #Mastodon have any option to fine-grain who can see a picture.
The concept of how #Facebook, or Google+ have been doing it, is something people would love to see.
The Fediverse propagates #privacy, but at this point it's failing.
I know in #hubzilla there is an option, but the biggest ones don't have it.
The question is: why?

I serien "Facebook feiler": får opp et varsel om at en 4 år gammel annonse ikke ble kjørt (hvorfor nå?) fordi den inneholdt "urealistiske før- og etter-bilder". Annonsen var for kvinnedagen i 2022 og inneholdt bilder av noen inviterte talere/bidragsytere.
Jeg kan jo være enig i at det er urealistisk å forvente at Karin Andersen skal bli til noen av de andre kvinnene ved å delta på 8. mars, men altså.. 🙈

Login impossibile, pagine che non si caricano, verifiche di sicurezza che si bloccano a metà. E milioni di utenti fermi davanti allo schermo senza riuscire a entrare nei propri account: è il nuovo down che sta colpendo le piattaforme di Meta, con Facebook in prima linea nei disservizi segnalati nelle ultime ore. Da diverso tempo, infatti, si moltiplicano le segnalazioni di problemi di accesso ai servizi del gruppo Meta Platforms, con difficoltà diffuse soprattutto nella fase di login. Secondo quanto riportato dal Il Messaggero utenti riferiscono di non riuscire a completare l’accesso agli account, bloccati da errori nei sistemi di verifica, in particolare quelli legati ai controlli anti-bot come il ReCaptcha.
Il risultato è una piattaforma che, per una parte consistente di utenti, appare di fatto inaccessibile. Anche chi riesce a entrare segnala rallentamenti evidenti, caricamenti intermittenti e contenuti che faticano a comparire correttamente, sia nel feed principale sia nella visualizzazione di foto e video. Le criticità non riguardano solo l’uso “social” della piattaforma. I disservizi si estendono infatti anche agli strumenti professionali del gruppo, con problemi segnalati all’interno della Meta Business Suite, dove inserzioni pubblicitarie e gestione delle campagne risultano instabili o parzialmente inaccessibili.
A cosa è dovuto il malfunzionamento
In rete si moltiplicano le ipotesi sulle possibili cause del malfunzionamento. Tra queste, l’attenzione si concentra su recenti modifiche infrastrutturali e sull’integrazione sempre più spinta dei servizi di messaggistica all’interno dell’ecosistema unico di Meta. Una centralizzazione che, secondo alcune ricostruzioni, potrebbe aver contribuito a sovraccaricare i sistemi. Al momento, da parte di Meta non sono ancora arrivate comunicazioni ufficiali dettagliate sulle cause del blocco né sui tempi di ripristino completo dei servizi.

For some time now, there have been increasing reports of problems accessing Meta Platforms’ services, with difficulties particularly in the login phase. According to Il Messaggero, users report being unable to complete access to accounts, blocked by errors in verification systems, particularly those related to anti-bot controls like ReCaptcha.
The result is a platform that, for a significant portion of users, appears effectively inaccessible. Those who are able to access it also report noticeable slowdowns, intermittent loading, and content that struggles to appear correctly, both in the main feed and in the display of photos and videos. The critical issues don’t just affect the “social” use of the platform. The disruptions also extend to the professional tools of the group, with problems reported within the Meta Business Suite, where advertising and campaign management are unstable or partially inaccessible.
What is causing the malfunction?
Numerous hypotheses are multiplying online about the possible causes of the malfunction. Among these, attention is focused on recent infrastructure changes and the increasingly integrated services of messaging within Meta’s unique ecosystem. A centralization that, according to some reconstructions, could have overloaded the systems. At the moment, Meta has not yet released official, detailed communications about the cause of the block or the time to fully restore the services.
