For some time I thought that it would be nice to have a kinda library software that I can use to keep track of all the books I have, especially in different formats (physical, audio, e-book, library available)
And with a Raspi I wanted to try a self-hosted version
What I found is booklore: https://booklore.org/docs/installation
Which looks promising, at least the setup with docker was completely painless, and with the predefined scripts, I guess, even doable by non-technical people

Okay, so #Calibre's #CalibreWeb - to be specific, #CalibreWebAutomated - is the absolutely most massive #Docker thing I use. The image is 1.92 gigabytes. HOW. How does a bog-standard Python app eat that much space.
Decided to try out the new fresh option, #BookLore. 329 megabytes. Sure, it's a bit big. ...but it's a Java app. 329 megabytes is pretty small for a Java web app actually.
The switch went... a little bit messily, but at least I have a new hobby now, actually being able to efficiently manage the ebook collection and edit the metadata without constantly worrying about corruption.

Some years ago, I started using #Docker #rootless for my #selfhosting needs. I was quite happy with it, even if finding information about rootless mode has been quite difficult.
I mostly used #compose setups.
Some days ago, I looked at #podman to replace those setups with a more modern stack. Podman works well for single containers but not that much podman-compose: don't believe the articles telling you that it's automatic, it's not!
