I've seen recently a couple of people pushing coins again, through posts here or articles on blogs, into the "Fediverse is still judging #Bluesky on whether it's really decentralized or not". And they're right, that isn't the real, current tangible issue of it in the grand order of things.
Unfortunately, most of these resources often end up focusing on simply denigrating some of the attitudes on the Fediverse, and barely touch on the fact that yes, Bluesky does indeed have major problems beyond the disputes over technology and its terms, including the huge one that quickly catches the eye every time you log on, the one that personally prevents me to really have taken roots on it: the network has now reached the point where it perfectly matches the hypocritical toxicity of the ‘Twitter of old’ that so many people who made the migration there were so keen to rediscover and relive, guided by the embellished prism of nostalgia (but I understand, Gran Turismo on PSOne was so much more photorealistic and less pixelated in my memories too).
Even when you try to have a feed that matches your social and political views, there's no way to deny now that unbridled dooming is just everywhere, and people just don't give a fuck to be careful about it.
One could say it's the era, but as far as a social network works, the absence of proper CW (could also add absence of editing as well) feature is also most probably to blame, as it does not contribute, as it does here, to the establishment of habits that involve taking the time to think about whether the content we are about to post can be exposed as it is to our audience or whether it is better to put it behind a warning.
And de facto, it also fails to put in place community safety nets, where the user group as a whole tries to establish and adhere to practices that are acceptable to everyone regarding content, not because we want to prevent some of it from being published, but because we recognise that, given the sensitive nature of a number of topics, it needs to be flagged as such.
Oh, and before someone points that out: yes, I know, it's far from perfect here as still so many people don't use it properly, but at least it's there, and you can have a feed where fellow Fediversians try to use it as best as they can.

Ja, das deckt sich auch mit meiner Beobachtung. Kann man sich die Anzahl der Follower im Laufe der Zeit als Grafik anzeigen lassen?
Letztlich ist ja aber nicht die Anzahl der Follower entscheidend, sondern dass darunter kompetente, freundliche und hilfsbereite Menschen darunter sind.
Und das ist hier bei #Mastodon auf alle Fälle gegeben.
Von #Bluesky halte ich mich fern, weil ich meine Abhängigkeit von US-amerikanischen Diensten minimieren will.
