Content warning:BlueSky sub-post, the technology crowd's approach to censorship
I *almost* have to admire the cleverness of the #technology executives' #FreeSpeech grift. The doublethink is devilish and deep. Essentially they have created a situation on the Internet corporations they run in which they freely conduct political censorship and do special political favors for their elite users, while denouncing any complaints about this system as being inimical to free speech. "Free Speech" has been redefined to mean, in practice, that certain persons are entitled to _protected_ speech. Merely to object strenuously enough to these persons is somehow denying their free expression. They *feel* hounded and persecuted, and that's enough.
It seems like both the tech execs and the propagandists they're protecting (see also #Substack, doing basically the same thing as what #BlueSky management is doing, only more flagrantly) have decided that *moral condemnation* is a line that nobody should cross. One should never point out that a person of favored status has lied, or that they've resorted to logical fallacies, or that they're advocating for crimes against humanity. All of these things are lumped together as "opinions", and "opinions" when they come from favored persons are sacrosanct. Merely to _counter_ such "opinions" is to be committing crimes against freedom of speech, as they define it.
To put it more bluntly, if you're guilty of giving someone important (a CEO perhaps, or a politician) a stab of guilt for betraying the *truth*, you've done something wrong, something that's _equivalent_ in their minds to #censorship.
And meanwhile they all protest that they want free and open "debate" (of the Charlie Kirk sort, i.e. strictly a performing-trick sort of "debate") and they're trying to counter the "leftist echo chamber" and so forth. They have no qualms about censoring forcible leftists. Presumably they justify this, in their minds, with the implicit assertion that dissenters COULD have been more "civil", and somehow expressed their dissent in a milder way that wouldn't have been censored, but there's no limit to this: it's not really possible to sugarcoat a logical rebuttal, aside perhaps by employing some tortuous Socratic method by which you lead them to questioning their own assertions.

Do you want to know how I know that #BlueSky is gaining political clout? The fact that there are more and more climate science denying trolls on Bluesky demonstrates that it has the juice.

It's nice to see that bluesky is not immune to the fediverse habit of telling non-techie users that decentralization is easy. You just have to build your own app

Another day on which the Bluesky CEO is straight up insulting their userbase and then telling they can GTFO if they don't like it... (https://bsky.app/profile/jay.bsky.team/post/3m25lajkank2w)
Curious marketing strategy.

We are now fully bounced out of #BlueSky. I guess I reached my limit of _falsity_ there and therefore opted to strike as high up as I could reach before the inevitable censorship. Anyway I should be looking for a venue that's more suitable to writing a page at a time rather than a paragraph.
I know there's a lot of people on BlueSky, and for #crowdfunding stuff that's important. It might be worth our while, after some cooling off, to set up a cutesy account there mostly for the purpose of boosting requests for #MutualAid. But I rather wish more people were aware that the management of the site is attempting to do something like what #Substack is doing, i.e. keep a few big-name political propagandists *coddled* there and protected from criticism through abusive moderation. It's just like Twitter really in terms of politically motivated "moderation", only it's slightly nicer I guess.
Probably not for that much longer, though.

Seen on #Bluesky
“cultural gas leak” is a great way to put it

Accounts bridged from #Bluesky are annoying. I did think they would be, but the one way thing ends up just feeling rude

I've created a #BlueSky placeholder account (https://bsky.app/profile/hedmad.bsky.social) because we've decided to use BlueSky instead of Mastodon for the Open Science Community Torino, of which I'm currently head coordinator (if you dont know about us, head to http://osc.to to learn more!)
I will probably not post much over there, but I'm considering making this "main" account about more general banter and the BlueSky "secondary" account more business cantered. Opinions welcome.
