The internet isnât a representation of reality; itâs full of fake, derivative versions of it & people repeating ideas they havenât thought through. Itâs basically an online game built from versions of reality that make you the most agitated & obsessed.
It should be treated as a game, because while it involves real people like you & me, itâs mostly dominated by derivative, inaccurate & counterfactual representations of reality. It's a drug trip.

That people act as if they have to be on #socialmedia, even though it causes them distress, means it is maladaptive.
But #addiction and compulsions are so normalized in America because they make for a great manipulation tool that people donât realize they have a problem.
Itâs not a chemical dependence, but itâs rooted in neuroticism. You don't have to fucking watch it. You don't have to fucking read it. If you feel like you have to, that's a compulsion.

So, there are these nifty things called books...
Because the Internet is hell, filled with simulacra and people infected with their memeplexes, I've pretty much gone back to reading physical books.
As a teen, I mostly hung out in libraries, & in college, I was always in the library between classes. It's relatively easy to avoid #misinformation and propaganda if you don't read stuff on the Internet. I'm restricting all fiction to pre-2010, though.
